A spontaneous winter escape from Vancouver to 48 Hours in Whistler gave me snow, solitude, hot tubs, and some seriously unforgettable après-ski. If you’re a fellow travel lover with only a couple of days to unwind, here’s how I made the most of just two nights in Whistler in this travel guide.
Day 1: From the City to the Snow
With three nights off before I had to fly back to Sydney, I landed in Vancouver mid-morning and decided to make the most of my break by heading to Whistler for a two-night winter escape, 48 hours in Whistler. I stayed one night in Vancouver before taking the SkyLynx bus up to Whistler early the next morning.
The SkyLynx shuttle departs from downtown Vancouver and the airport. The shuttle costs around C$35–39 one way. The two-hour drive through the Sea-to-Sky Highway was filled with snowy views and excitement.
After arriving, I checked into Whistler Executive. The staff were amazing. Despite being early, they offered to take my WhatsApp number and called me as soon as the room was ready. It was meant to be available at 3 p.m. I got into my room by noon with a small upgrade fee of C$50 for early check-in.
Snowfall, Shopping & Après-Ski Vibes
Once settled, I wandered through the village while my travel companion sorted out their ski gear. I quickly realised my outfit wasn’t quite snow-ready, so I did a little impromptu shopping to gear up.
Later, I found a seat at The Longhorn Saloon for my first après-ski experience. Mulled wine, lively music, and an atmosphere full of dancing and energy—honestly, the vibe was electric.

Dinner Magic at Il Caminetto
That evening, I walked into Il Caminetto, a charming Italian spot that was fully booked but kindly took my details. About 30 minutes later, they called me back offering a table. The food was exceptional—rich pasta, hearty mains, and beautiful service. After a few drinks and a full stomach, I called it an early night, with plans for a full day ahead.
Day 2: Hot Tubs & Snowshoeing Bliss
While my companion hit the slopes the next morning, I started my day the same way as the day before—with another hot chocolate and bacon roll from Provision, I wasn’t wasting any of my 48 hours in Whistler. Then came what I can only describe as one of the most serene travel moments of my life: sitting in the outdoor hot tub at Whistler Executive with snow gently falling around me, sipping hot chocolate. Pure magic.
After that, I rented snowshoes from Lost Lake Park. I initially planned to take the long loop but quickly discovered how intense snowshoeing is—halfway through the shorter loop, I was scanning for the finish line! Still, being mostly alone in the peaceful snowy forest was an unexpected delight.
After returning the gear, I warmed up with tortilla soup and (yes) another hot chocolate at the lodge café.

Après-Ski Round 2, Twice in Our 48 Hours in Whistler & A Magical Forest Walk
I returned to the Longhorn Saloon where I met some fellow travellers from Vancouver. The crowd was buzzing again. Later, I stopped by the Garibaldi Lift Company, where they do a quirky tradition: around 6 p.m., the staff stop everything to hand out free shots. The DJ made a toast, and the whole crowd raised a glass together—a surprisingly touching moment in a ski bar.
Before dinner, I headed off to something truly special: Vallea Lumina. It’s an immersive multimedia forest walk just outside the village. Walking through the snow-draped trees, lit with glowing lights and magical storytelling, made me feel like I’d stepped into a fairytale. It’s a must-do.

A Steakhouse Surprise
That night, I chose a steakhouse right opposite my hotel, The Keg Steak House and while the food took a little longer than expected, the service was next level. My steak arrived about 25 minutes in, but the staff insisted I wouldn’t be charged—for either the meal, the wine, or the dessert they brought to the table. Completely unexpected but so appreciated.
Day 3: After 48 Hours in Whistler it was Time for One Last Hot Chocolate & The Journey Home
On my final morning, I couldn’t resist one last hot chocolate before boarding the bus back to Vancouver. The snow had really settled in overnight, and I half-hoped my flight would be delayed so I could spend more than 48 Hours in Whistler and enjoy one more evening —but no such luck.
I was back in Vancouver by mid-morning and squeezed in a nap before getting back on the plane to Sydney.
Where to Stay: The Whistler Executive
I highly recommend Executive The Inn at Whistler Village for your stay—clean, quiet, with helpful staff, and great amenities like the outdoor hot tub and heated pool. Whether you’re skiing or snowshoeing, it’s an ideal base.
Final Thoughts: I’m Already Planning My Return and My Next 48 Hours in Whistler
This trip was supposed to be a relaxing stopover—but Whistler gave me so much more. From spontaneous hot chocolate moments to magical snowshoe hikes and glittering light walks through Vallea Lumina, it turned into one of the most memorable weekends I’ve had while traveling.
Next time, I won’t be on a work trip. I’m going back just for me—and yes, I think I’ll finally give skiing another go.
