Bistro des Lettres , A French Bistro in Paris

A cozy bistro in Paris where the food is rich, the wine flows, and your future self gets a postcard.

The Place

Bistro des Lettres is a French Bistro in Paris tucked into a quiet street in Saint-Germain, and stepping inside feels like being welcomed into a friend’s living room—if your friend had a fantastic wine list and a thing for moody lighting. It’s warm, a little lively, and full of that effortless Parisian charm.

This was my second time here. I’d brought a different crew the first time, and couldn’t wait to return. I’d talked it up before we even landed in Paris—and it still exceeded expectations. From the minute we sat down, there was laughter, banter with the owners, and friendly energy bouncing between our table and the one next to us.

The Plate

I ordered the duck confit—a Paris classic, done right. Crispy skin, fall-apart tender meat, rich without being heavy. Paired with perfectly crisp fries, it hit every note I wanted after a long day on the move. A few of the crew went for the escargot, and from the sounds around the table, it did not disappoint.

We weren’t expecting dessert, but they surprised the table with something sweet on the house. That kind of gesture says everything about this place.

Photo Notes

Capturing a few shots of the crew slipping letters into the box—an unmissable part of the experience. Each guest is invited to write a letter to their future self, and a year later, the restaurant sends it back to you. Watching everyone lean over their menus, pen in hand, pausing to think about what they wanted their future selves to know… it was unexpectedly moving, and very them.

Pro tip: this place has just the right evening glow to make every photo feel intimate and filmic. Great for portraits and quiet table shots.

Flavour Memory

What I’ll remember most isn’t just the duck confit or the generous pour of red—it’s how completely at home we felt. The staff were warm, genuinely attentive, and made sure we never felt rushed. They checked in often, but never hovered. The evening stretched out in the best way, full of stories, laughter, good food, and just enough Parisian magic.

Try This

Go for the duck, try the escargot if you’re feeling bold, and write that letter to yourself. And when you’re done? Wander a few blocks to find live jazz and let the night keep going.

Bistro des Lettres is walking distance from Notre Dame, making it a perfect dinner spot after an afternoon of sightseeing. Whether you’re crew or just passing through, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back—again and again.
