After being called out last minute at 4:30 am for a flight to Perth and enduring a rolling delay of up to 4.5 hours, I decided I deserved a treat. Fine dining always lifts my spirits, and while I had already enjoyed the Sentinel Bar and Grill on a previous visit, I wanted to try something new. After a bit of research, I discovered The Rusty Fig, a restaurant promising an elevated dining experience. It sounded perfect for an indulgent evening.
The Rusty Fig did not disappoint—it was exceptional from start to finish. As I settled in, the attentive staff surprised me with complimentary canapés and a delicate mushroom soup. This thoughtful touch set the tone for what would be one of the most memorable meals I’ve had.
For my entrée, I chose the scallops, perfectly cooked and paired with flavours and textures of peas and pancetta. The dish was exceptional. Then came the highlight: the Harvey Bay beef fillet. The tender, flavourful cut was cooked to perfection and accompanied by sides that enhanced every bite. Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t finish it all, but it remains one of the finest beef dishes I’ve ever tasted.
To accompany the meal, I selected a Xanadu Chardonnay 2022 from Margaret River. This wine was the ideal indulgence after such a long day. With its creamy texture, subtle oak, and notes of citrus and stone fruit, it elevated every course.
