Being a flight attendant has taught me that smart packing is everything. It’s not about cramming your bag, but about being ready for anything, so you can turn a layover into an adventure.
The so-called “glamorous” life is really about being strategic. You learn to be adaptable because you might be in freezing, rainy Perth one day and then hopping over to Paris in extreme heat the next. Or you show up at the airport thinking you’re off to a humid 34-degree Singapore and suddenly you’re rerouted to Vancouver in the middle of winter. You have to be ready for it all.
This is why every item in my bag has a purpose. My swimsuit has seen rooftop pools in Bangalore and my walking shoes have explored markets on six continents. But it’s not all about adventure. Sometimes it’s about a good book during a jet-lagged night or just comfortable clothes to feel human again.
Multi-purpose items are your best friends. A simple wrap can be a beach cover-up, a blanket on a cold flight, or even a makeshift curtain. My sneakers take me from the plane to a night out. It’s about carrying possibilities, not just stuff.
Being prepared for the unexpected is the name of the game. It means you can say ‘yes’ to a spontaneous dinner with colleagues or a hidden beach someone tells you about. It’s about having the gear to explore when you have the energy and the comforts to rest when you don’t.
At the end of the day, it’s not about the perfect Instagram photo. It’s about living well while constantly on the move and having the confidence that you can handle whatever comes your way.
