Taipei's MRT network is easy to navigate, buses fill in the gaps, and the Taoyuan Airport MRT gives a direct rail link from the airport.

Single-journey MRT tickets or EasyCard taps cost NT$20 to NT$65 depending on distance, confirmed on the official TRTC fare page. TRTC gates also accept physical contactless Visa, Mastercard, JCB, UnionPay, Diners Club and Discover cards (or these cards linked to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay) at the same fare as a single-journey ticket — not every bank card will work, only these specific schemes with NFC contactless support.
Covers Taipei and New Taipei City with frequent trains.

Pro Tip: Check the [TRTC Bank Cards page](https://english.metro.taipei/cp.aspx?n=BECC2E7AC426F659&s=74E62C405BBE3069) for the full accepted-scheme list before relying on a card at the gate.

The Taoyuan Airport MRT connects Taoyuan International Airport with Taipei Main Station (A1). A single full-fare journey between Taipei Main Station and the airport (A12 Terminal 1 or A13 Terminal 2) is NT$160, confirmed on the official Taoyuan International Airport fare table and cross-checked against the Taoyuan Metro Corporation's fare matrix. Check the official Taoyuan Airport MRT page for current schedules and the Express/Commuter service difference. Airport buses and taxis are also available outside each terminal as alternatives.
An EasyCard is the standard way to pay across MRT, buses and YouBike, with fares matching single-journey ticket prices and an added transfer discount within one hour of an MRT–bus connection. At MRT gates, you can also tap a physical contactless Visa, Mastercard, JCB, UnionPay, Diners Club or Discover card, or one of these linked to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay — not all bank cards work, and bank-card journeys do not receive the transfer discount; see the TRTC Bank Cards page. Check current card deposit and refund terms directly with EasyCard Corporation, and confirm the current price and inclusions of any multi-day tourist pass with the official operator before buying.
Beitou Hot Springs and Tamsui are reached via the MRT Red Line from Taipei Main Station. Jiufen is not on the MRT network; a bus connection from Taipei is the usual route, so check current bus timetables rather than assuming an MRT-only journey. For Maokong, the gondola connects from Taipei Zoo MRT station; check the TRTC fare and transfer page for current conditions.
