As a flight attendant with limited time on layovers, I love finding quick, scenic ways to stay active, and walking along Perth’s Swan River is one of my go-to routines. Instead of hitting the gym, this walk lets me soak up the city’s beauty while getting in a good workout.
I usually start at Elizabeth Quay, a perfect launch point with its lively waterfront vibe and skyline views. From there, I’ll often head along the Elizabeth Quay to South Perth Foreshore path, a 2.5-kilometer stretch that’s easy to complete in under an hour. The walk takes me across a pedestrian bridge and follows the river with the city as a stunning backdrop. It’s not unusual to spot black swans gliding on the water or see locals out kayaking, which adds to the peaceful yet lively atmosphere.
If I have a bit more time, the Swan River Loop is a fantastic two-hour circuit. This 10-kilometer trail loops through Kings Park, providing a mix of riverside views, towering trees, and garden scenery that feels worlds away from airport terminals. It’s a great way to clear my head, get a cardio boost, and enjoy the charm of Perth—all before my next flight.
This riverside walk has quickly become my go-to way to recharge during quick Perth layovers. It’s the perfect balance of exercise and exploration, without needing to step into a gym!
